Hello, I think both of them are important, but here must have a balance between personal and social identity. We are social individuals for nature, that why people need to feel a sense of belonging to a group, could be family, community, country, nation. Been part of a group develop the sense of good for the others. For the other hand, the personal identity helps to develop some specific abilities and critical thinking. Some people used to relate personal identity with individualism.
